Please help me understand

why it is that China is permitted to host an Olympics, given their opposition to all we hold dear, in general, and freedom, specifically? As explained in this story, China has now revoked the visa of an American speedskating gold medalist because he has been outspoken on Darfur. So, after years of work, he will miss the Games. This follows China's going back on its promises regarding open access to the internet during the Games, es explained here.

I'm boycotting this Olympics, though they won't feel it, given my usual practice of non-TV-watching. But this feels like a cosmic joke on the universe, and that is all I have the power to do.

I'm not going to watch the Olympics either. I have a feeling NBC is going to notice it in lower ratings.
