So much for the celebration following last week's election . . .

the Democrats' recent victory means nothing when this continues to happen in our country:

Tuesday night, an Iranian-American student at UCLA who did not leave the library quickly enough for UC PD was Tasered multiple times, even after he had been handcuffed and was lying on the ground motionless. His offense? He couldn't produce his UC student ID and he was in the library after 11:00 p.m. Here is UCLA's extensive and informative statement on the matter.

Keep in mind: this happened in "liberal" California. Doesn't bode well for those of us in the Red States, does it? If you want to do something, please consider calling (310-825-2151) or writing (chancellor@conet.ucla.edu) UCLA Acting Chancellor Norman Abrams to tell him what you think of this abuse of power. Better yet, give to the ACLU of Southern California to assist in their fight against conduct like this.

And if you are looking for evidence of Bush's intent to a a bipartisan teammate with the Dems, you need read no further than this article, in which the Washington Post explains:

The Bush administration has appointed a new chief of family-planning programs at the Department of Health and Human Services who worked at a Christian pregnancy-counseling organization that regards the distribution of contraceptives as "demeaning to women."

Yes, that and the resubmission of John Bolton as U.N. Chief are really great starts, not exactly nods to the new mandate shown by last week's election.

I couldn't even watch the whole thing. It's going to be difficult to fight the prejudice that is coming out of fear. And the administration and politicians encourage that fear.

BTW, I finally got caught up in my reading. That was a lovely post about your dad.

The only thing we can hope is that with the Dem win last week we have broken up the Bush cult and now can start bringing everybody back to reality. It's really stunning what a bunch of looneys, freaks and pervs that have been running this country (very badly) over the last 6 years.
