in the Cubs' 13-7 loss to the Mets today, which included a sixth inning that fit this description:
[New York Mets] Cliff Floyd and Carlos Beltran hit grand slams, and David Wright added a two-run shot in an 11-run sixth inning . . . . . New York sent 16 batters to the plate in the sixth and benefited from two errors on second baseman Todd Walker that led to eight of the 11 runs being unearned. The half-inning, on a muggy 95-degree night at Wrigley Field, took 41 minutes to play and saw the Cubs make 70 pitches.I thought they had broken my heart in every way possible this season, but they surprised me.
Sigh.
On the bright side, I witnessed two historic moments in baseball today. On TV--today was the first time the Cubs gave up two grand slams in one inning. In person--today was Mariano Rivera's 400th save, which he completed against the Chicago White Sox.
